If Rocks Could Cry

The road you see is made up of stones that were once called ballisters. These were stones that were on the slave ships when slaves were transported from Africa. These stones "witnessed" the abuse to the slaves through uncomfortable conditions, sicknesses, starvation and death on these ships. What was done on these ships were inhumane. If these ballisters (stones) could talk, what would they say? They probably would not say anything. If anything they would scream and cry at the inhumanity they witnessed.

Sites of Savannah

After touring Savannah State, we had a chance to take the students on a tour of the various sites in the city. Savannah, out of all the cities in the south, really carries the aura of slavery. We traveled along side the Atlantic River. Here you can see the area where the cotton trade flourished. The students were able to see former slave quarters and "blocks" where slaves were sold. This is one of the reasons we tour the south, to show students of color their history. The intent is to encourage students to recognize their history and hopefully motivating them to be a changer in this world, not a spectator. This beautiful city if filled with the wonderful traditions of the classic south. At the same time it has the remnants of the evil of human abuse and civil discord.

Savannah State

We are now at Savannah State University. This is in my opinion the most beautiful campus I have ever visited. This is my third or fourth time visiting this school. This school exemplifies what I believe the "old South" looked like. You will see the campus is spread out with big trees, moss, and renovated buildings.

Paine College

We checked in the hotel in Augusta, Georgia and the next day toured Paine College. Viewers, Augusta is a beautiful city. This is actually my first time here. The city is currently preparing for the prestigious Augusta National Golf Tournament. Although the Augusta golf course is private, the students were able to view the exterior of the course.

Junior College Member

You are meeting "The Cameron Cash", yes, "The Cameron Cash". We take junior college students to assist us on the tour and with Keystone. They are usually academically outstanding students and the easiest to get accepted into the college. Some students choose to attend junior college before taking the step into a four year college. Cameron is one of those students. Cameron is a sophomore at Contra Costa Junior College in San Pablo, California and is majoring in psychology. He has attained over a 3.0 GPA. He is also a utility player on the basketball team, and will graduate at the end of this semester. He currently has colleges looking at him. He participates in the tours to widen his opportunities and to help chaperone our young men. This is Cameron's third year on the tour and has was previously a member for about four years. Cameron, we appreciate you, and can not wait to see where you go.

Student of the Day

Our next student of the day is the beautiful and talented India Haynes. India is a junior at Berkely High School. She has a high GPA and is college bound. She joined Keystone this year and hit the ground running. She has participated in the Feed the Hungry and Food Pantry Programs at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She volunteers at Vallejo High School as a statician for all of the boys basketball games. Once you know India you have known her all your life. She is a very warm and friendly young lady not scared to be herself around others. This young lady has kept us laughing the entire trip. Look at this picture. All I asked her to do was pose for the camera. Although I can definately see her in drama, India could be anything she chooses. Don't let the humor fool you, she kicks butt in the classroom. India thank you for your unique character. For showing no fear and being yourself. You are a special young lady and a blessing to everyone who is in your presence.
